Yesterday I had two people share their dreams with me. Dreams that they don’t speak out loud very often. As soon as they each started talking about these ideas, the things that make them most excited in life, they spoke more rapidly, more animated and their energies shifted into high gear. Both of them said they really felt that this was what they were meant to do.
Both also expressed the idea that maybe they were crazy to want to pursue their dreams. Now mind you, neither one suggested quitting their jobs, leaving their families or even radically changing their lives so they could pursue their passions. They just want to consistently set aside some time to do the things that make them most happy. And they were looking for a little reassurance that it wasn’t completely insane to want to do this.
When did our culture make us feel crazy for wanting to do what we love? Why do we feel the need to get someone else’s approval that it’s okay to go after things that are important to us.
So if this is how you feel as well, let me be the voice that assures you it is NOT crazy to want to pursue the things that make you happiest. It’s not crazy to go after your dreams. This life is short and we’re all only headed on one direction so it’s crazy to not go after those things that you really want.
Let me say it again…
You are not crazy to go after whatever it is that makes you happiest in this world.
In fact, we need more people to chase after their dreams. That’s what makes this world a better place. So please, for the sake of all of us, embrace those wild ideas you have and go after them with all of your heart. The only crazy people out there are the ones who never go after their dreams.
You’re not crazy. Chasing your dreams may be the sanest thing you’ll ever do.
